On July 6th, the European Commission visited the project MIDWOR-LIFE during its latest monitoring visit along with the IDOM-NEEMO monitoring team. AEI TÈXTILS, as project coordinator, welcomed Mr. Manuel Montero, project adviser at EASME – the Executive Agency for Small and Medium Enterprises from the European Commission, and Ms. Irune Osés from IDOM-NEEMO, the monitoring team subcontracted by the EC. The meeting was held in Terrassa, at LEITAT Technological Center facilities.
On June 5th, the final event of MIDWOR-LIFE gathered 36 stakeholders from 10 European countries in the field of substitution of per- and poly-fluorinated substances in the textile industry, in Brussels with broad high profile representation including the European Commission, textile industry representatives, chemical producers and research centers across Europe.
The MIDWOR-LIFE team hed the consortium meeting during June 4th and June 5th to review the progress of the project within the facilities of the Delegation of the Catalan government in the EU, also in Brussels. The team reviewed the latest updates on each individual action and planned activities for the coming last months of the project life cycle.

The aim of this event is to present the key findings and outcomes from the MIDWOR-LIFE project and open a debate on the implementation of chemical substitution policies in the textile industry with focus on the use of Durable Water and Oil Repellents (DWORs) in textile finishing processes.
On February 28th, a consortium meeting of MIDWOR-LIFE project was held in CETIM facilities in A Coruña, Spain, with the participation of all project partners. Additionally, the External Advisory Board of the project attended to this meeting as part of the project strategy to gather vital inputs for the later stage of the project and beyond. The members present were Mr. Mauro Scalia, Manager of Sustainable Businesses at EURATEX, Mr. Germán Garcia, Sustainability Manager at Inditex, and Dr. Giorgio Rovero, professor at Politecnico di Torino.
On October 3rd, a consortium meeting of MIDWOR-LIFE project was held in Città Studi facilities in Biella, organized by the Italian partner Pointex, with the participation from all project partners.
The meeting began with the presentations of the progress and outcomes obtained for each action during the last 6 months. Alongside the up-to-date results, each partner also presented their proposed action plan for the coming months. After each action presentation, a discussion was opened among all the participants to evaluate and propose guidelines for next steps.
Main results for this semester are the release of deliverable B1.1: “Report on the pre-industrial applications and characterization of DWOR and alternatives” and the addition of three new alternative Durable Water and Oil Repellent (DWOR) products to be studied during the project, the internal publication of deliverable C3.1 “Preliminary report on cost-efficiency methodology and system defined”, the progress on the environmental impact model development and the layout description of the web tool.
MIDWOR-LIFE project participated at the Dornbirn Man-made Fibers Congress that was held from 13th to 15th September 2017.
Dornbirn-MFC is the global flagship event and innovation platform where around 800 researchers and technicians from 30 nations have met this year.
This year’s Congress focused around four main topics: Fiber innovations; Fibers, textiles and nonwovens for hygienic and healthcare applications; Fibers, textiles and nonwovens for protective applications; and Fibers, textiles and nonwovens for sports and leisure wear.
On March 29th and 30th, a consortium meeting of MIDWOR-LIFE project, coordinated by AEI Tèxtils, was held in Brussels.
The main objective of the meeting was the launch of the mid-term report which is due for the end of May. AEI Tèxtils explained to the rest of partners the scope of this report, the structure and the planning to prepare and deliver it on time.
Also, the progress made in the last year of activities was presented to the project monitor. These presentations were useful, not only for the monitor but for each Activity leader to know better what is expected by the European Commission with regards to technical details and quantified results.
The meeting took place in ACCIÓ facilities with the participation of all project partners.
Last Tuesday, 27th of September, the consortium held the annual meeting at the facilities of IQAC-CSIC, in Barcelona. This follow-up meeting had as a novelty the presence of two members of the project’s External Advisory Board, Prof. G. Rovero of the Polytechnic University of Torino, and Mr. M. Scalia of European Apparel and Textile confederation EURATEX.
The MIDWOR-LIFE consortium will meet again next 27th of September in Barcelona, Spain.
This time the team from CSIC-IQAC will be hosting the meeting in which the latest developments of the project will be presented and discussed.
The members of the External Advisory Board (EAB) will also join this meeting to share industry insights and advice on how to obtain the best results from the project. The EAB members who will attend are:
