On March 15th, a European Stakeholder Workshop was organised by the MIDWOR-LIFE project together with EURATEX.

The first part of Action B1 consists of performing the application of the selected conventional and alternative DWOR products on the selected fabrics.
The first workshop of MIDWOR-LIFE project was held on 29th November 2016 in Città Studi, Biella. Entitled “Environmental sustainability of the water-oil repellent treatments in the finishing processes: the possible alternatives,” he was attended by Jordi Mota (LEITAT, Terrassa), introduced by Paola Fontana (POINTEX / Città Studi), in the presence of a large group companies from the textile sector, regional and national.
Chemical Substitution is a hot topic in Europa as the 2018 registration deadline, part of the REACH process managed by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) is closer and chemicals which are not registered will no be able to be supplied legally in the EU market.

According to the draft Regulation, attached to WTO document 16-5339, PFOA is identified as a persistent, bioaccumulative and toxic substance (PBT). It has been on the Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) since June 2013, and is a candidate for listing under Annex XIV (Authorization List) of REACH.
With the purpose of advancing in the development of this environmental assessment, and aiming to address different aspects that must be defined at early stages of the activity, a draft version of the LCA has been developed. This initial LCA has been built using the results from the previous Preparatory Actions (A1 & A2) and specific data from the Ecoinvent database and technical references.
Last Tuesday, 27th of September, the consortium held the annual meeting at the facilities of IQAC-CSIC, in Barcelona. This follow-up meeting had as a novelty the presence of two members of the project’s External Advisory Board, Prof. G. Rovero of the Polytechnic University of Torino, and Mr. M. Scalia of European Apparel and Textile confederation EURATEX.
MIDWOR-LIFE project attended to the Dornbirn Man-made Fibers Congress that was held from the 20th to the 22nd of September.
Dornbirn-MFC is the global flagship event and innovation platform where about 800 researchers and technicians from 30 nations will meet this year.
The MIDWOR-LIFE consortium will meet again next 27th of September in Barcelona, Spain.
This time the team from CSIC-IQAC will be hosting the meeting in which the latest developments of the project will be presented and discussed.
The members of the External Advisory Board (EAB) will also join this meeting to share industry insights and advice on how to obtain the best results from the project. The EAB members who will attend are:
